Insomnia

A journey into the unsleeping

There is a borderline territory suspended between dusk and dawn, a moment when the mind remains unexpectedly alert. The series "Insomnia: A journey into the unsleeping" is born from this precise condition. Night ceases to be a time of missed rest, revealing itself instead as a creative space—a visual voyage into the depths of consciousness.

The common thread of the project reimagines a famous Italian adage: “he who sleeps catches no fish” (the equivalent of “the early bird catches the worm”). Stripped of its pragmatic undertone, the proverb establishes a poetics of vigil, where the insomniac learns to navigate their own dark hours. In this intimate geography, synapses take shape and branch out like grand trees, while thoughts assume the guise of fish—tangible visions to be gathered before the daylight dissolves them.

Across the fourteen pieces that comprise the series, the itinerary unfolds like a psychological logbook. It begins at the midnight crossroads, balancing between the anticipation of slumber and an openness to the unknown, before drifting into the deep exploration of an inner sea. This shifting landscape can offer sudden enlightenments, just as it can transform into a theater of storms where ideas risk being shipwrecked.

The night thus becomes a complete cycle. After traversing the fragmentation of thought, the journey returns the waking dreamer to the first light of dawn, ready to begin anew and give shape to a fresh start.
