Requiem for a dream
What remains of an ideal when its very foundations collapse?
In Lady Pietas, my latest pastel work, the Statue of Liberty steps into the role of a modern Mater Dolorosa.
Held in her arms is not a body, but the American flag: the symbol of a democracy that once stood as the champion of freedom, now bent under the weight of an authoritarian, technocratic, and oppressive drift.
It is not just a critique of an increasingly suffocating system of control, it is a lament for a freedom we took for granted.
