The four seasons

No more half-seasons

With this painting, I've tried to explore the passage through the seasons of existence, each with its own nuances and realizations. Spring is a time of soap bubbles, dreams, and fleeting drawings on walls. A moment of lightness gradually giving way to the awareness of a scorching summer, dotted with cacti, where one wanders like a headless horseman in search of an identity. With autumn, the gaze matures, conscious of the journey taken and the imminent, cold, and icy winter waiting beyond the door.

A curious fact: from the very beginning, I had clear visions for the representation of spring and summer, but I couldn't visualize autumn and winter. Then, one evening, while watching a documentary about Velázquez, I revisited Las Meninas, and suddenly, everything took shape, completing the cycle. I paused the documentary, and the preliminary sketch for this painting was born.

Materials

For this piece, I exclusively used professional, top-quality materials. It's rendered on 1,8mm Clairfontaine Pastelmat board, selected for its ideal texture. I applied colors with soft pastels and pastel pencils from renowned brands: Sennelier, Blockx, Rembrandt, Faber-Castell Pitt, and Stabilo Carbothello. All pigments are premium and highly light-resistant, ensuring the artwork's enduring vibrancy.
