Irreversible process?
That square just steps away from my studio, a place I see every day, which transforms in the summer into the backdrop for endless queues of people waiting to buy gelato, inspired this piece.
“Melt” portrays a world in flux: the lake Como recedes, the mountains transform into dunes, and the square, once teeming with life, becomes empty, arid, and metaphysical. A simple gelato, a symbol of consumerism and summer lightheartedness, remains untouched. Meanwhile, the hand holding it melts beneath the weight of uncontrolled rising temperatures, becoming the true victim of a process that humanity itself set in motion.
The dissolution of the hand contrasted with the stillness of the gelato serves as a metaphor for our social inertia: as we focus on fleeting pleasures, our very nature liquefies, reminding us that climate change is not an abstract threat to the planet, but an active process of self-destruction for our species.
