A New Vision of Charity
Theater of War is my reflection on the horrors of war that reach us daily through the screens of our devices. This artwork is freely inspired by a masterpiece by the Baroque master Paolo Pagani, "Dio Padre fra due putti" (God the Father between two putti), which represents Charity, preserved in the Casa Museo di Castello, in Valsolda—the village visible on the mountains to the right of the curtain.
Unlike the original painting, the putti in my work have grown, becoming bearers of hope and a new kind of charity. They transform the horror of war into a promise for a brighter future, represented by the beauty of the valley where I live, while the devil peers in, frightened and bewildered, acknowledging that war is exclusively the work of man.
Perched on the curtain, which depicts a bombed Gaza, an interplay of forms between a dove and a bomb—a reference to my previous painting Exchange a Sign of Peace—reminds us how war and peace are a constant loop in human nature.
Theater of War expresses my wish that future generations will finally break the chains of division and approach the world with a foresight often absent in those who govern us, oblivious to the lessons of history.
Materiali
For this piece, I exclusively used professional, top-quality materials. It's rendered on Clairfontaine Pastelmat board, selected for its ideal texture. I applied colors with soft pastels and pastel pencils from renowned brands: Sennelier, Blockx, Rembrandt, Faber-Castell Pitt, and Stabilo Carbothello. All pigments are premium and highly light-resistant, ensuring the artwork's enduring vibrancy.
